I have been living in Battleford since 1986 after living on our farm @ Meota
from 1973 to 1986. Prior to farming, Cyril Bertsch and I lived in
Lethbridge from 1969 to 1973, and I spent my time as a full-time Mom and
homemaker.
I began selling Real Estate in the Battlefords in 1980 when it became
necessary to earn a living for my two children and myself after my divorce
in 1979. It has been a wonderful career and I've thoroughly enjoyed the
many people I've served over all these years. Of course, my family has
grown up and married and blessed me with six grandchildren (four boys and
two girls). I am very fortunate to have both Danny Joe and Chandra and
their families living and working in the area so I do get to see and spend
time with the kids fairly regularly. In the winter it's hockey, (Coltyn,
Ethan & Dylyn, and Dantan and Darby are the hockey players) and dance
(Dakota) and in the spring and summer, it is 4-H activities both with cattle
and horses (which involves Dakota, Dantan & Dylyn). My son and daughter in
law (Dan and Dana Bertsch) are ranching south of Battleford, and my
daughter and son in law (Pat & Chandra Mohr) live on an acreage overlooking
the North Sask. River valley just north of the City. I was remarried in 1997, and with Len Stolz came two more children, Shaun &
Shelly, who have both married in the last two years and blessed us with
another grand-daughter, so our lives are very full.
My parents are both still living, and I sold them a house next door to ours
about seven years ago when Dad finally decided to retire. We have great
times together and we are able to help them out with yard and house work
when it gets to be too much for them. They are both in their '80's now so
it does work out rather well as they "babysit" our dog when it's too cold
for her to stay in our yard or garage.
My "spare" time revolves around the North Battleford Rotary Club, the
Battlefords Chamber of Commerce, the Saskatchewan Real Estate Association,
and the Battlefords Trade & Education Centre (the former Sheltered
Workshop). Thank goodness, Len is a good cook and doesn't mind my being out
and about in the evenings!!!
This year (2004) is the Town of Battleford's 100th Anniversary so I am also
involved in the many activities being planned to celebrate this special
occasion! I hope everyone will try to make it home this summer to join in
the festivities!!! Even Princess Anne is coming!
And, just to make life really interesting, I became a Marriage Commissioner
for the Province of Sask. in 1998, and have performed 100+ weddings in the
past few years. It really gets busy through the summer months and I have
done as many as four weddings on a summer Saturday. I just love it and have
met so many wonderful people as a result. Some of whom, have even become
Real Estate clients as well!!
